Marion F. Williams
PASTOR AND COMMUNITY LEADER
MARION FOR SENATE
OPPORTUNITY FOR A CHANGE
Marion's career has been spent in
Augusta-Richmond County, first as a City of Augusta Fireman back in 1968, a
CSX Rail Yard Master and later as an Augusta-Richmond County Commissioner,
where he served district 2 for eight years. As a result, he understands the
economy, the need for a good solid education and job creation. He understands
the need for specific plans and concrete goals. He understands how to bring
business and community leaders together. Therefore, Marion's focus on
community-building is a perfect fit for the GA 22nd Senatorial
District.
EDUCATION THAT EXPANDS
OPPORTUNITY
Since a skilled workforce
is the key to attracting new businesses, Marion will fight to improve public
schools - and will focus on ensuring that children are given individual
attention from skilled teachers. Because not all children learn the same way,
Marion will work to reduce class size to no more than 18 children in the early
grades. And because he knows that small class size is only part of the solution,
he supports new measures to put a qualified teacher in every classroom,
scholarships for future teachers and year-round teacher training.
Roughly 50% of our children do not graduate high school
and
we must make sure funds
reach the classroom and do not get caught up in the bureaucracy of the
administration. He is committed to improving our public schools and finding new
ways to help school children that are failing by our own
standards. With three grand children, one in high school and two will soon be
school-age, he is concerned about providing quality education for all of our
children.
HEALTH CARE THAT HELPS OUR FAMILIES
As a father of three daughters, Marion knows how important it is for families to
have the health care they need and deserve. He supports medical decisions made by doctors and patients. He supports a new health insurance tax credits and expanded
programs to cover children first. To meet the needs of rural communities, he
supports the expansion of rural medical clinics that tap into the resources of
Augusta's medical research and training institutions. And because too many
seniors struggle to make ends meet, he strongly supports a Medicare prescription
drug benefit that will help all seniors afford the medicines they need to
survive.
"I'm
running for Senate to help expand opportunities - this includes better schools
for our children, more competitive jobs and improved health care for Georgia
families."
